I reverting what said as i got new info: Purism shipped the last newer Rv-1.2 for L5 under Redpine, Rv1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 was under Silabs. It will a dream and magic if Purism released last RV Silabs for L5, as same Redpine module but with tons fixes and features plus Gnu ready module.
I hate Sparklan because too much unsecurity, unfreedom, uncontrol and complexity for end user and of course unGNU module.
I do not care if sparklan is Linux mainline, at this point i no longer care about Linux mainline for L5 or L14.
Linux mainline shipping tons of blackboxes deps on every release, which give a easy total control for vendors controllers thanks to Linux.
RSI is so nice driver, as it give the freedom to enable Linux or Gnu on Systems. I do not know other driver like this, of course this freedom come thanks to Purism, sadly Opensource Ecosystem is killing slowly at Purism by forcing opensources modules like spaklan to L5.

Two years ago I have bought some bios chip for A88XM-E Asus motherboard. Are compatible with asus kgpe-d16? Not the bios, the chip only (i will re-flash it with properly rom of course)
Anyone know which case use Technoetical d16 workstation?

“2MiB flash chips are included by default, on these boards. It’s on a P-DIP 8 slot (SPI chip). The flash chip can be upgraded to higher sizes: 4MiB, 8MiB or 16MiB.”
but they forget to say model, for example searching “spi chip 16mb” on ebay returns a lot of things except a good bios chip for kgpe-d16.
So the question is..
If I download the 2mb rom from here
I will get at least bios+seabios?
Anyone know a good string for search and buy a compatible rom-chip for kgpe-d16? Thanks

I’m a little jealous of your openhardware. Is the Raptor Talos Secure Workstation? Just yesterday i was browsing ebay for a replace of my old ppc5 workstation, I saw the price of the “recent” ppc64 power 7 and power8 and was really expensive. I still hope for the future a “ppc64 for poor” something cost about between 1500€ and 2000€ so is available also for us with the wallet tiny and usually empty maybe also a little slow, something based on ppc 8 or 7

As I understand Coreboot will support amd..with psp! So we will have a “secure” system like this
my idea is to don’t buy amd and intel, and “point” all to reach (if the big brother permit) a free and secure platform without proprietary stuff of any kind.
Actually we have very poor choices
- Old Workstations like Hp C8000 (pro: no psp, no intel me) (cons: proprietary stuff in firmware, hppa is practically a dead platform)
- Old Ibm ppc64 servers power8 and power7 (pro: powerful) (cons:expensive, noisy like an airplane, proprietary firmware called “openfirmware”
) - Old Asus kgpe-d16 (pro: 32 core!, no proprietary stuff if Gnuboot works, no proprietary stuff if gnu-kernel run) (cons: old, risk of cpu bugs in near future, very difficult to find some parts like coolers)
- Raptor ws (pro: very fast, very free, very powerful and modern) (cons: you must be a Medic, a politician or Air pilot to spent over 10000$ for a Workstation)
Another good alternative can be this, but I suspect there are some proprietary stuff floating around
Must avoid:
- all modern pc with amd psp or Intel ME, they are pratically backdoors very difficult (probably impossible) to remove
- all smartphones included the smartphones so called encrypted (sic!) and smartphones with “free version” of android, smartphones are based on ultra-closed hardware and are more diffused than windows so crackers in modern era are trained to attack smartphones the best smartphone is the old cellphone without internet

How about containers in ppc64? There are native images available? I have tried chroot and use commands in x86-ppc64 using binfmt and qemu-user, result: very slow, near useless.
I not fancy for containers so not much to say, just i know is that gnu-linux 6.17, 6.18 improved support for kvm on ppc.
Containers are great. Even on a not fast pc you can run 8 containers or more (depend to what did you need). The problems of containers are the safety, if host kernel is bugged all containers are bugged. On kvm is different, every machine has its own kernel
