How old is that flip-phone? Was it ever VoLTE-capable? If not, maybe AT&T disabled phone calls after VoLTE became mandatory and they shut down 3G and 2G.
Checking my own L5’s IMEI on Consumer Cellular’s bring-your-own-device page shows that they consider the Librem 5’s modem compatible. Did you enable VoLTE on your Librem 5?
Thanks for the help! I got a second SIM card and made sure the phone was off (and the battery was out) when I put the new one in. I enabled VoLTE and I can still only text on it.
I’m going to try to sign up for Purism’s service and hope I can keep my number.
I have never been able to make VoLTE work on my phone either even though I have my account enabled for it and the phone is enabled and the company I work for who provides my cellular service confirms they do not block devices…so idk what’s going on here.
EDIT: I don’t know why I didn’t try this before but I put my work phone’s SIM which is a 5G capable phone with the latest SIM in it and I’m able to make VoLTE calls using 4G only. So even though my personal SIM is and LTE SIM card for some reason it’s not allowing the VoLTE call. No idea why.
So if you’re having this problem I would say get a new SIM as a first thing to try before you get too crazy with firmware upgrades and such.
Same provider only difference is the SIM and physically the SIM’s are identical. I’m getting a new SIM for my personal phone (Librem 5) today so we’ll see if it’s the SIM or something else.
UPDATE: New SIM didn’t help so it’s definitely something with my account even though VoLTE is not being blocked on it. Also my new personal SIM in my work phone also does not do VoLTE so I now know it’s something to do with my account.
