Purism was a Free Software company. IMHO.
I just thanks for Purism for Librem 5 Redpine.
I really like the PureOS OS. The Librem 5 smartphone is just a hardware/firmware convenience for me to get PureOS working on a small device. I knew there was some shortcomings, but PureOS is streamlined (or somewhat minimalist) in installation and almost a computer with GNU Boot firmware, GNU Grub bootloader, and one of the GNU/Linux OS.
When I bought the Librem 5, I knew for a fact that wide support for free firmware didn’t exist yet. I remain hopeful on Purism to introduce GNU Boot testing in order to replace coreboot and Libreboot. Of course, if PureBoot can also be on the Librem 5, that’s a good sign too (hub device and Librem Key probably required). Besides, PureOS + Librem 5 is a new smartphone available on the market compared to Replicant + specific (old) phones.
I wonder if I should make a topic to request GNU Boot or PureBoot firmware on Librem 5? Seems redundant. Just read about Linux-libre as a different kernel, but maybe we’re jumping too many hoops in one go. Once testing is complete, Purism could render GNU Boot (based on Libreboot) and GNU/Linux-libre installation services for previous/refurbished devices. DIY instructions are also welcome. As for new devices, implementation should been done after production.
As you can see Here and There Opensource(FOSS) User And Programmers Love BLOBs. So hopes are dead with Purism for Libre Firmwares.
