How to close apps?

Hi,

Seems crazy, but I just received my phone, played with it a bit but still has not managed to close apps that I open! Can someone tell me how you close an app please?

Tap the small “^” in the center, below the app’s screen. Then the app screen will minimize to a large thumbnail at the top. Swipe it up and it will close.

Edit: When you swipe up, you might have to place your finger on the narrow band at the bottom of the thumbnail.

Just for the sake of feedback, can you explain what you tried that didn’t work?

I think it was just me being silly really ! Was so used to UbuntuTouch, tried to swipe it down but not up Also did not see any indication (a red cross somewhere next to the thumbnails could be useful).
