They are typically called “distributors”. Like my company makes an auto widget. So companies like NAPA and Carquest are “distributors”. Obviously they get the product at a discount, so they can resell it. Far easier than selling direct to individual mechanics and lowers our shipping cost. (Let the distributors do it.)
Of course you need “scale”, if you make 90 thousand automobile widgets a day, it makes sense to use a distributor. But if you only make and ship 50 in a week, or in bursts of production, you may as well sell direct and not go through a distributor.
