L14 says the firmware is suddenly missing (did my laptop die?)

The L14 battery is depleting in minutes. While it was still under (extended) guarantee, I messaged the support and they (slowly) indicated to update the firmware. The problem was fixed for a few days and started again. I have reinstalled Purism OS but the problem persists. I have sent a new message 2 months ago which they never replied.

If paying an extended guarantee does not include a correct answer in a timely manner, I don’t know what did I buy when paying extra. Normally I should demand my laptop to be repaired or replaced, but how can I do that if they completely ghost me. Quite disappointed, after I bought 3 of their products in the last 10 years.

Lately the L14 decided to just crash even while plugged, either I was working on it or not.

And from today I get this message while booting

i915 0000:00:02.0: firmware: failed to load i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin (-2)
firmware_class: See Firmware - Debian Wiki for information about missing firmware
modprobe: module imx_sdma not found in modules.dep
modprobe: module ofpart not found in modules.dep

BusyBox v1.30.1 (Debian 1:1.30.1-6+deb11u1) built-in shell (ash)
Enter ‘help’ for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs) _

On another thread I read that there’s nothing wrong about i915 firmware, the error message is wrong itself, and the issue is elsewhere. I can’t even download the firmware again because the page is not loading firmware / releases · GitLab
Is there anything I can do to make it work again?

Librem 14 it is for Gnu PureOS. If using LineAgeOS then blame the issues to LineAgeOS & forum.

About crash-system it could be for a bad battery or old ec firmware.

Librem 14 do not using dmc-linux : ) blob firmware, so something it wrong on configs. dmc blob-linux firmware just enable power saving on arc gpus, L14 do not using arc. If dont want to see the dmc-message then talk to gnu on how-to.

My bad, this one is on my phone, not on my L14. I corrected my first post.

It’s not that I don’t wanna see the message. It’s that I don’t know how to boot my laptop.

Disconnect the battery from socket, then plug the barrel power on Laptop then try booting… for some reason if battery is bad laptop could not power 0n even if it connected on barrel power.

This only if L14 do not booting to Coreboot either. If booting to Coreboot but not booting to Gnu then do not need to disconnect the battery, then go to Gnu Grub to go on console mode.

Correct.ish. There’s nothing wrong but nor is the error message actually wrong. In other words, the error message is true and correct but it doesn’t indicate a problem.

The result is that the error message is a red herring. It is a distraction from the actual problem (still to be determined).

This is an indication of a problem. Some sort of significant error during boot occurred and it crapped out into a shell. I dare say that you might be able to troubleshoot from that prompt. Maybe.

If it were me, I would do a Live Boot from a USB.

Maybe @JCS can help to expedite your support issues.
