Librem 5 Power Bug

Yes, I know how charging works. With all the laptops I’ve gone through, but I have never seen this before. My tablet, which I rarely open, hasn’t done that. The phone was set on it’s cradle and started charging. If my charge-keeping records are close, when I set it to charge, it was at 58%.

I don’t think that can be repurposed as a feature. But it’s the Internet. A feature would be 10 min to charge 2% (or whatever). Knowing what power remains is a feature as well as how long to charge. Not knowing how long (really) would be a feature and how much juice remains would be a feature.

Well now, that’s kinda - well, to me it’s weird because when it’s charging, we would have to keep checking it even if it said “13 hours 52 minutes until fully charged” or 1 minute. So watch it’s charged until it’s 20 to 90 percentage.

I see Irvine has a plan:

You’re out for dinner, alarm goes off. Where do you plug it in? I mean, after you ignored the the audio badgering several times.
@irvinewade Is that alarm easy to install and use for other alarms - like time to take a stress pill?

@xeda
Do you think Puri will add that to the instructions with every phone they sell?

In the car if that is adequately secure? Or using a powerbank? Or maybe you can’t. But I guess you can use the alert in that scenario as a trigger to shut the phone down.

No. Just something I cobbled together. Using cron.

This seems an inconsistent problem. I reproduced it once but other times I haven’t got the same behaviour. Still investigating …

Meh. It’s my L5 - haunted, demonized, my poltergeist.
Some times, not very often, I even hear voices coming from it.

Sharon,

the truth is some batteries charging Firmware and so Phones do - hide some complexety, information and just charge automaticaly only up to 90% and print 100% status. Its like old school hard drives for storage - detect broken spaces like bad blocks and mark them as unusable on a list and have some additional store to locate instead.

This is the curse of complex systems and you only knew how it really works if you kill or dismantle every part of your phone and try to rebuild it. Today you can not have 100% security about. Because sometimes you got the 1 phone of 1.000 - where the sub, sub, sub-manufacturer got for few seconds out of parts and used another one.

I am not sure how the L5 charge and if it check or use the last atom and percentage of battery every time but i think for myself that it has some space to adjust, like every battery. And no one, will use 100% of physical possibility because it - likely have more melfunctions and damages if it use every atom.

In the Past there was the burning Galaxy Phone. Done by dendrites or whiskers… some physical change which can end up in damaging the battery itself.

What you observe is likely a bug or dust in USB-C or not perfect adjusted power supply. Like charging with lett voltage from a unstable power source.

I like the idea to use my L5 with a Nexdock and have it charged too, because the Nexdock have a big power supply.

Regards

Chris
