For me, my “Chats” loads and is able to send/receive texts depending on who your carrier is; as in my case.
In the end, aside from the occasional snafus it does what it says, but for important dependable stuff, I use email.

Librem Chat is part of the Librem One service:
More confusion. Is Librem.one Chat also called “Chats”, Chatty, the chat/message/sms/XMPP “messaging client”? I’d check by visiting the “Chats” website but right now I’ve been trying to find out why it is that when I open any link, FF comes up, then disappears. One of those usual snafus.
The Librem One service currrently consists of these applications:
I forgot what backend Librem Mail uses.
I’m still waiting to hear if they’ve fixed the payment service for Librem One, I want to do the $8 monthly fee
No, Librem One Chat is a messaging service, while the default Chats app, is a regular SMS/MMS/XMPP messaging client that handles mobile provider messaging, and to which extra messaging services can be added (XMPP-based, etc.).
Purism isn’t doing itself any favors by naming things in this way.
My Librem sub lapsed because I couldn’t get into my account to update my cc details. I contacted support, got one reply after six weeks, but nothing since then. The subscription is still going but I haven’t paid and still wait for help.
I can’t add payment, nor can I get access to all features, it’s ridiculous. I have previous support emails to Purism regarding this as well.
This is still a known issue with Librem One and we have had recent technical and staffing challenges in adequately addressing these concerns. We receive many support tickets on the topic, so this is certainly on our radar and is being prioritized accordingly.
Thank you for the response, hoping to see it fixed soon so I can subscribe
