Postponing fixing the configurations will result in a system that is upgraded, but possibly has broken configurations so it does not solve anything. At that point it’s better to upgrade every package in the system except for that package until you have the time to fix it, otherwise you will have a running system with a possibly broken state (and depending on what package it was, it can be a critical issue).
Regardless, you still have the option to open the shell during upgrade and copy both versions. I don’t see the problem here to be honest.
