I have a Librem 14 running Qubes OS 4.1, yesterday I shut down my laptop normally via the OS. It seems like the shutdown worked from the OS side of things. However, the Laptop itself is still “on”. The screen is black but lit and the indicator LEDs are also on. I tried to hold down the power button for at least a minute and the situation remains unchanged. It neither turns on nor fully off. The power button worked when I turned it on yesterday morning.
After realizing its not really off, I unplugged the Laptop from the Wall. Its now been running on battery for close to 15 hours. Thats probably a new record for the Librem 14.
Did anybody ever have a similar issue? How long do you think will the laptop need to run out of power? The fans aren’t spinning and the only thing that is still on is the screen.
I don’t know about the Librem 14 specifically, but my Librem 15 has a tiny hole underneath on the bottom plate, which does a MBD hard reset when you insert a pin. Effectively, I had some situation like the one you describe, with Qubes 4.1 not shutting down completely, and this hard reset cleared the problem.
And like @FranklyFlawless suggested, this problem seems to be gone with version 4.2 of Qubes.
Maybe the L14 also has such a MBD hard reset?
I just had a problem with a L14 out of power for many weeks long. Then wanting to start it, the bootl loops on and off completely bugging. I think it is a problem with the firmware. I will try to reflash the chip manually like described in a purism post (i have bought the flashing material for that).
