When will PureOS have the latest GNOME??
Can you recommend a way to upgrade GNOME on Pureos9

PureOS 9 Amber is at GNOME 3.30 and will never upgrade. You’ll have to move to Byzantium to get an updated version. See here:

Shows up fine on mine. Its a Debian page so maybe something was going on there. No matter, 3.38 is still only in Experimental so folks just have to be patient for it to hit Debian Testing and then PureOS 10 Byzantium.

To upgrade to byzantium, edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file so it looks like this:

deb https://repo.puri.sm/pureos byzantium main
deb https://repo.pureos.net/pureos/ byzantium-security main
deb https://repo.pureos.net/pureos/ byzantium-updates main

Then issue these commands:
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade

I can’t find these instructions anywhere, so it would be helpful to add this to the documentation.

There were some reported bumps on Byzantium when it moved from GNOME 3.34 to 3.36. Might be best for regular folks to wait till after the 3.38 transition.

i check > https://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=current#upcoming < from time to time to figure out the aprox. dates of when i can expect cutting-edge stuff to enter the beta phase in testing.

right now GNOME 3.38 is early alpha phase (a very bleeding edge-sw). and the oven is getting ready to receive the “cookie” … remember “there is no spoon”

right now it seems to me like early november should be a great time to introduce the cookie in the oven (when it’s nice and hot :wink: )

According to Debian, after 2-10 days of being in Sid, it will enter Debian testing.

When it does, it will enter PureOS Byzantium.

So if you’re OK with getting more recent software at the cost of a bit less stability, you can follow the comment above to upgrade to Byzantium.

In general Byzantine is the rolling release of PureOS that will always have the most up to date versions of software on it? Bleeding edge in some cases, and so not entirely stable. Would this be correct?

GNOME 3.38 is in Byzantium today. Just upgraded on my Librem Mini and it is running well, no hitches from what I could see. Great work GNOME team.
