the thing is proprietary smartphones nowadays like the flagships (the high-end) are where they are because of AI. sure some of them have multiple cameras built in (each with their own specialty - at the end they get combined into something useful) but the heavy lifting is all software-based.

In favor of AI this might change soon, if, in upcoming future, L5 uses, on top of i.MX 8M Plus (2.3 TOPs NPU, 14nm LPC FinFET), something like Basler AG Embedded Vision camera module (daA2500-60mc or daA3840-30mc). I believe software comes from pylon Open Source Projects: Be Part of It!
