Is it possible to add an online account beyond those that are listed by default? For example I use Dropbox but it has Nextcloud in the list. I could change, but being able to add other accounts would be handy.

That’s a shame, but not a deal breaker. For the amount of times that I use Dropbox I’ll just switch to Nextcloud. Surprises me however that you can’t.
As far as I know, the “online account” function is for setting up things like e-mail, calendar and address books. Does Dropbox offer those? I thought it was only a file sharing/synchronisation product…
Anyway I’m pretty sure (although I don’t use it myself) Dropbox is well supported on Linux, so you should not need to change. Whatever procedure you would use to set it up on a laptop should work on the phone as well.
I use Dropbox very infrequently and , I think you’re correct, its just storage. It might be time fir me to go to Nextcloud to make contacts transfers etc easier.
