ATT does not have very strong service in my area (and although all the main companies are basically the same in this, don’t love ATT track record with privacy from the 9/11 patriot act era).
Mint mobile seemed interesting to me, and like awesim I think I can join with an alias account. Is there anything I need to do with awesim before switching or can I just let that plan run out and then order a mint mobile sim and plan?
I gather that you’re not planning to keep the AweSIM phone number by porting it to the new carrier prior to closing the account. If you were going to keep the number, you would need to start the port with the gaining carrier and then wait for it to complete before closing the AweSIM account. You would possibly have to set a security PIN with Purism in case Mint Mobile asks for one… and they should, for security reasons.
Is Awesim paid from a stored balance, i.e. paygo mode? (I’m asking because I don’t know how billing works at Purism.) If that’s the case, unless you have an automatic monthly bill payment set up for your AweSIM account, I guess you could let your balance run out; I think it would be better to just log in and cancel the account, though. If you do have automatic payment set, you wouldn’t want it to keep charging you by failing to close the account.
I ordered mint mobile I have the sim card. I still have AweSim currently. Do I have to cancel that service for mint to work? Or can I just switch out the sim and go though the steps to get mint to work. I’m afraid if I cancel awesim mint doesn’t working then I wont have any service that works lol.
okay cool. Having an issue now. I put the sim in before I went though the activation steps and the phone knew there was a sim in. I took the sim back out thinking I needed the number of the sim card and im to the step where it asks me to put the sim back in and the phone has the sim with the question mark icon in the upper corner and under mobile network it says no sim. Ive tried multiple times, theres no other way the sim can go in the slot so I believe I’m doing it right but it still says no sim each time.
I tried the old sim and it didn’t work at first but tried it a 2nd time and it did recognize it. So maybe there’s a finess to it? Ill keep trying the new sim.
I probably did. Dang it. I pre paid for 3 months ( in was only like $45) but i guess I have to buy a new one and wait?
Can I put the sim in a co-workers phone to see if it detects it? It would be an an android or Iphone. Would mint mobile some how be doing something? I guess that’s not how it works, if they could, the phone wouldn’t get service maybe but it wouldn’t prevent the phone from at least reading the sim.
okay Ill try that, I probably did fry it. I took it in and out multiply times with the phone on wondering if I some how put it in the wrong way or something. Thats a relief that mint would send another one. Ok Thanks!
You might be able to find a Mint SIM at Best Buy [or Walmart, Target, etc.], but first confirm with Mint’s customer service that you can associate it with the plan you already paid for.
