Windows 2000 ![]()
I had a Windows 2k Professional (bought original on Ebay and updated before Microsoft switch to tls 1.2) which I use for some nostalgia app + some very old games (Empire Earth, Max payne). Actually works fine with gpu passtrough with those cards
Host (Linux Slackware)
05:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Caicos [Radeon HD 6450/7450/8450 / R5 230 OEM] [1002:6779]
Guest (Windows 2000)
06:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series] [1002:68f9]
What is the problem? In the next months I will switch totally from firmware-proprietary-pollution to a best free system (Asus kgpe-d16+gnuboot+gnukernel)
So I need a good old card which has this “points”
- Windows 2000 compatbile
- No proprietary firmware required (if required gnu kernel refuse to start it, give error messages and vfio-pci driver don’t work)
- passive because i hate fan noisy
Anyone has some idea?
Edit1: Use wine is not a good idea, those games are old and full of bugs, is important to use it in a isolated os, without networking ![]()
Edit2: Use qemu+3dfx project is a very bad idea, is cpu based and more slow than gpu passtrough, the only good part is the possibility to play in window size
Edit3: Use Window XP is a bad idea, when you pass the joypad it disconnect it (is a windows xp bug because with Windows 2000 it happen 1 time for year (on Xp one time every time you turn on machine)
