I’ve two audio questions for the Librem 5:
- Is it possible to set the audio output for a specific application (flatpak app) to default to a specific audio output, without changing the output for other applications? My use case is that Signal Desktop, which I have installed as a flatpak always uses the audio output of the Speaker - Built-in Audio. I prefer to have that by default as Handset - Built-in Audio.
- Is it possible to put the volume to more than 100%? On my Fedora laptop running GNOME I can do that, I forgot if I did something specific to make this possible. My use case is that I’m often listen to podcasts using the Speaker - Built-in Audio, but the volume is often too low in a noisy environment (also because some of the podcasts I listen to have a too low volume compared to some other podcasts). I tried:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.sound allow-volume-above-100-percent true
as suggested in this issue, but that did not give me the possibility to go over 100% volume (using the GUI) on Crimson.

Install Gnome Tweaks (if you don’t have it installed):
sudo apt install gnome-tweaks
Select the General tab
Turn on Over-Amplification

Thanks! I can drag the slider now above 100%.

There is something called “Audio roles” mentioned here: Phosh 2025 in Retrospect · Phosh

Maybe this could be the solution. I’ve now idea how to configure this, and also not if it would work already on Crimson.
Now I’m thinking a bit more about this, my desired behavior would even be a bit more complex, and maybe also would need support from the app. Let me take Signal desktop as an example: Ideally the ringing sound, when someone calls you, should go to the the generic default at the moment of being called. When you pick up, ideally the sound output should switch to Handset, or maybe only Handset when it is detected that you hold the phone against your ear.

Good for now but removed from later versions of Gnome Tweaks:

Before anyone freaks out; it was moved to the accessibility option menus.
