Nowhere does it say what “AWS” stands for. The writer assumes the reader knows.
Because it was drilled into me to always declare the first use of an acronym by spelling it out the first time in a document followed by the acronym in parenthesis, it irks me. Even so, as a secretary, it was always a correspondence and documention standard, not a journalistic one. I can’t speak for journalism; yet here I do so.

I agree. That is correct standard practice and would be “house style” for many companies. However eventually an acronym or initialism can reach the point of general acceptance as not requiring elaboration or even being stripped of its status as an acronym or initialism.
