On Talos “configurator” I see this

AMD Radeon Pro W7600 Workstation Graphics

AMD Radeon Pro WX9100 Workstation Graphics

cpu which need proprietary firmware are “marked” with (Proprietary)

for example

NVIDIA Quadro GV100 32GB GPU (Proprietary)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 GPU (Proprietary)

I have serious doubt AMD/ATI release something with free firmware, but I wait for confirm.

p.s= I also see the price list, the GPU cost 3000$ and more, the workstation Talos II start from 10000!

A interesting discussion about Intel ME, amd psp and similar

I heard some proprietary bios can disable Amd PSP, but I never saw a proof (a video for example) so no proof, no fact!

I do not think it works Libre.

Many many people still have not realized/knowing that Linux is a Villain, not just for Gnu but for Users. That is why we should use Hero GnuLinux instead of the Linux.

Purism forum is not Blue but Green to tell the truth, however human like Blue naturally(not me), because do not want to know the truth that we are going to die, then just ignore it, like ignoring the massive Linux BLOBs, BLOATs.

Nobody takes care of us, they just throw us into the labyrinth or even worse a maze, the only way to escape is to decrypt the labyrinth.

Atm I cannot because i’m on home-vacation. I will return to home on Wednesday-Tuesday (4 days :frowning: ). But I test it on Slackware (which has proprietary firmware package, currently, but I will remove soon) using Libre kernel, and also tested on a Libre-kernel distribution (Trisquel, but I’m not sure), anyway wait 4-5 days and I will report more precisely.

I have success in Libre-kernel distribution and Slackware using 6.15.6-gnu

Changelog 2025-26-10: added a Dell laptop and dvb-s2 card

CPU

AMD A10-Series A10 5800K A10 5800 (don’t work with gnu-boot as I know, works with some old version of coreboot (removed in the latest versions), no know about proprietary firmware needed, no amd psp

AMD Ryzen 3 3200G (avoid all ryzen serie, they had amd psp which is the “Intel me” of Amd, is impossible to disable it, no free bios support this cpu family atm (2025))

DVB-CARDS (dvb-s, dvb-c, dvb-t)

TECHNOTREND TT-connect S2-4600 aka geniatech dvb-s2 with id 0b48:3011: DON’T WORK, the card is initialized, vdr start but no channel and no motor-dish steer, in few words: dont’t work, return this error message which mean this card has the driver free but the firmware proprietary!

m88ds3103 3-0068: firmware file ‘/(DEBLOBBED)/’ not found

FS

ZFS: a lot of users don’t like it because its license, but personally I consider it a great fs, compile fine and works with gnu-libre-kernel. The version used by Linux is open-zfs which is opensource (zfs official is a little different and has some obscure “oracleus” things)

GPU

[AMD/ATI] Caicos [Radeon HD 6450/7450/8450 / R5 230 OEM] (don’t work with gnu-libre, require a proprietary blob, the driver radeon is opensource, the firmware not, X11 don’t start)

ASUS F2A85-M PRO (works with Coreboot 4.18, support removed since 4.19, no amd psp)

WORKSTATIONS

IBM 9111-285 (works with gnu-libre, NO gnu-boot, very outdated, slow but usable, cpu with serious hw bugs still not fixed, kernel 6.* is not recommended because can hang on boot), a notice: is very old hw, it belong to another era in which states don’t use amd psp, intel me and other shit to track users, so I think even without a libre firmware is more safe than more modern hardware with coreboot (and proprietary firmware loaded), PROBABLY!

WIFI

BrosTrend 1800 AX (works with gnu-libre, use this driver) WARNING: works fine as client, give me a lot of problem as AP (disconnections) even with standard Linux kernel

What exactly would constitute proof?

Even on Intel with the HAP bit set to tell the Intel ME to “go away”, it is doubtful that you can prove that it is not just hanging around in stealth mode. This is a fundamental problem with blackbox software (in this case the software that runs on the Intel ME CPU).

A proof is a video, a study, a research, a proof is something that you can show. I agree with you there is no 100% safety about the infamous ME, atm the best practice is to use outdated amd cpu with gnu-boot, or be rich and buy Raptor products, or wait for another solution. When I bought products with Amd ryzen and Intel I don’t know nothing about me or psp :expressionless: I know only after :frowning:

But better later then never, personally I will never bought any product which is not free (no psp, no me and no proprietary firmware), I also compile a list of hardware supported by the free bios and free kernel.

An opinion about this motherboard, is supported by gnu-boot

It fine, it is a RYF AMD Computer from 2012, however there is a new promise via AMD Opensil for next year 2026 Ryzen “Medusa” Zen 6 which will be Gnuboot compat. or Ryzen “Phoenix” for sooner Proof-of-Concept.

I would like that Librem 14 to move to Ryzen “Phoenix”, to get GNU RYF.

What I read! Seems impossible, personally I don’t trust Amd as Intel and other Bigs, but if is compatible with gnu-boot…we have to trust, no proprietary firmware, no party, good.

Just a question: where did you read this platform will be supported by gnu-boot?

I said it will compatible for Gnuboot support.

WORKSTATIONS/PC/SERVERS

HP Microserver NL40: Works all, except those devices (one is the Radeon VGA RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250], the cpu is very old and a little slow but is bug-free (no know hardware bugs like spectre and similar not-fixed), NO free bios available for this machine.

IBM 9111-285 (works with gnu-libre, NO gnu-boot or other free bios, very outdated, slow but usable, cpu with serious hw bugs still not fixed, kernel 6.* is not recommended because can hang on boot), a notice: is very old hw, it belong to another era in which states don’t use amd psp, intel me and other shit to track users, so I think even without a libre firmware is more safe than more modern hardware with coreboot (and proprietary firmware loaded), PROBABLY!

WIFI

BrosTrend Ac1200: works with gnu-libre, use this driver) not tested as AP or Client, because no AP atm, but the card load without any error message, official driver included in kernel (rtw_8822bu) don’t work and exit with those errors

[ 2.325959] 1-4:1.0: Missing Free firmware (non-Free firmware loading is disabled)

with rtl88x2bu works fine as you can see

in few words: blacklist rtw_8822bu and use rtl88x2bu

BrosTrend 1800 AX (works with gnu-libre, use this driver) WARNING: works fine as client, give me a lot of problem as AP (disconnections) even with standard Linux kernel
