Building and running Signal Desktop on the Librem 5

Yes, but according to what @johnk wrote earlier in this thread it should be possible without involving any Android device, using Axolotl to act as a primary device:

@prog-amateur maybe that can work for you?

I will say it’s a bit of a dance between the Axolotl and Signal applications on the Librem 5 to get Signal linked to Axolotl, but I have it working and have used it for over a month with my phone number on the SIMple plan.

Axolotl is packaged in flathub and there are .debs available. You can use that as a primary, and it’s a little clunky, but linking it with a desktop client (even the “desktop” client on your phone) will get you most of the features back. You can safely ignore and almost never open axolotl after that if you wish.

FWIW, I use the same strategy, but I use MollyIM via Waydroid as my “primary” that I almost completely ignore. (I’ve heard Waydroid doesn’t work as well as Anbox on PureOS. I use Arch+Phosh on a PinePhone, but you could probably accomplish the same thing on the L5 with Anbox instead of Waydroid).
