I have a problem with the fact that he was annoyed that it didn’t stay “best” for very long.

That was my main issue as well. He wasn’t rich, but if that’s what he wanted to do, that was his privilege. Combine that with his expectation that his purchase wouldn’t suddenly have been a waste (by his lights) because it was no longer the best, though…and he turns into a dufus.

Actually…knowing him, he didn’t.

I haven’t interacted with him in something like 20+ years.

it probably was more the issue that he didn’t know when to buy or from where that frustrated him more after the fact …
