Case for Librem 5?

After dropping and having to replace the cracked LCD screen on my Librem 5, I’m hoping to pay someobdy to print and ship a quality case here to the US. I’d pay extra for the trouble. Would you be up to it?

let’s wait until the case has arrived at @matt2 and what it cost in customs at the end.

I received my case yesterday via USPS. There was no customs stuff. Once, DHL had something to do with customs, but I have never had that with USPS so far.

This is good news! Glad it worked out!

In anticipation of finally getting the phone, I’d be interested in paying for someone to print and send a case (US here). In addition to the model that @st.boom has listed (which looks great), are there other cases that anyone could vouch for? Any potential sellers? Is it worth breaking this out into a separate “case marketplace” thread? Thanks!

I can print two more in the next few days if you like. It might make sense for you and @WinstonSmith to coordinate so that I had to send only one package from germany.

Basically, I don’t want to print too much. Otherwise they’ll say it’s commercial in the end.

Great! I’ll private message you my address. If @mathemagician is interested too, we can split the shipping cost and I’ll send him a case as soon as I get them.

Sounds good to me, thank you both!

I’m having the hardest time figuring out which file I would need for this. I looked in the two gitlab links and everything looks a year old or older. Can you point me to the file you used for this?

I had the @fiacco file (Evergreen_new_case_1.1.stl) printed and like it a lot. However, as the weather warmed, I have experience some overheating while charging during heavy usage. Would be nice to modify the case to have slots all the way around the top and sides to aid cooling. I don’t think that would compromise the protection value of the case in any way.

Didn’t someone say that the stl file did not lend itself to modification in a CAD program?

I made that mistake previously: Blender (at least) does open and edit .stl files. Not sure if other format would give better functionality and control, though.

Ah… I haven’t tried a CAD program since AutoCAD for DOS. I’ve heard good things about Blender, but didn’t know it was good for creating/editing 3D printer files. I’ll have to try it out.

That’s the same I did it with my last smartphones!
Imagine, when I bought my first iPhone, I bought armoured case for it but, in summertime, I experienced stop-working safety process from it to save it from overheating! So I definitely abandoned covers and now I’m using only bumpers!

I really worried that Purism still not release a fancy gnu case for librem 5 : (
Librem 5 it very close to be a daily driver gnu+lnx phone strictly.

We get closer to shipping parity fast. There are more L5s in the wild than ever. I really encourage Purism to offer a protective case.
