Case for Librem 5?

As already stated above, I’ve used a commercial CAD to model it so it won’t be much help, but it’s not a problem for me to share it anyway (looks like they are going to give me access to the repo).
If you want me to apply some modification instead, just sketch them in order to make me understand your idea.

If you could share the CAD file I think it will be useful anyway (someone might be able to convert it). As per the modification, my idea was to add some material (roughly 1mm) over the edge of the phone. If you can make it would be great, thanks!

the yellow area is the material added: +1 mm “radial” and +0.5 mm above the screen (it should be 1 mm total over the glass).
The little notch on the inner edge is the shape of the screen as measured on my phone

Would it be an option for someone in EU who is going to print the next case, i.e. sending it to some company to do so, ask for a copy for me. Ofc, I will pay the print and sending and ofc in advance. Please contact me at guru@unixare.de . Thanks

I was measuring my Android phone and case to get a comparison. Unlike the Librem 5, the phone itself has a border that is 0.5mm above the screen, and my protector adds 1mm to that. Unlike the Android, the Librem 5 seems to have glass that sticks out by 0.5mm (I eyeballed this measurement), making the border -0.5mm. So to get the equivalent protection of 1.5mm above the screen, this case would have to add 2mm around the screen.

I am trying to understand what the parts are. Is the green part open air, and the blue a screen protector?

Thank you for your help!

Yes, this is precisely what I had in mind! Thanks

Green and blue is rubber above the screen. Total 1 mm.
I’m going to deem this final until someone prints the next prototype, following the directions of @gsp that made a test and shared his thoughts. I think it’s better to converge to the optimal solution through small improvements.

OK, but I’ve a doubt: looking at your pictures above, is seems that the case doesn’t fit well on the side of the phone, further reducing the wrap of the upper lip, while the “design” situation appears much more adherent. Do you have clearances on the sides?

I wanted to let everyone know that I used Photon’s advice and printed a case from Makexyz.com. The costs was $21.99 plus shipping, I believe? (I live in the United States)

The process I used was:

Process: FDM
Material: TPU

The case is as described GSP in his post. It is a nice, flexible case that is a little flimsy. It offers some protection but will likely not help with a high drop onto a hard surface. That being said, I did drop it on the bathroom tile floor this past weekend and there were no cracks in the screen or damage!

I am very happy with the case. It was what I was looking for.

I guess I’ll have to test how well I can print tpu.

EDIT: I have ordered TPU. I will report how the results are with my printer.

Yes I do have little clearances on the sides. I think they are due to the flexible material that loses tension due to the holes in the case. The corners of the case fit quite well though…

So, finally the print works with tpu.
The printing of the case is running, I will report.

EDIT: Quick feedback, It fits perfectly and is very robust.
Visually I will try a few optimizations the side walls are still too rough for me.
Trial 2 with optimizations is printing now.

One print takes about four hours. If you want me to test any changes, let me know.

That’s looking like a good fitting case. Are you using it on a daily basis and what are your findings?

I have been using the case for 3 days and I am very happy with it.
However, the librem5 is not yet my main device. A few things that I need do not work yet.

Hi, guys! I’d like to have a bumper when I’ll be receiving my L5. Could I buy one from some of you into EU? (So I avoid custom tax and expensive shipping). I never used CAD in my life and I don’t have 3d printer (although I’d like to have one to print personalised stuff for myself).
Just I’d like to have only the borders (bumper) instead of typical cover. I’m not interested to cover L5 back. Maybe little bit thicker than this last one shown because I want my L5 be strongly protected from falling! It’s absolutely not important to me if it’ll be big like a brick! I always liked big devices and I’m big guy with big hands so I prefer thicker instead of thinner!
Please let me know if you’re interested and price, considering I haven’t received yet my L5, so it’s not urgent!
Thank you

I don’t know how to use CAD software either. I could only offer to print and ship it at cost if the quality is good enough for you.

If you’re located in EU, I’d be interested as well. Please send me a PM message with costs and other details. Thanks.

I’ll have to do the math on that. Shipping should be more expensive than the printing costs.
But will take a while I’m hiking all weekend.

I would like a print shipped to me (or 2), if it is not too inconvenient for you. I also would not mind paying above cost. I am located in the US.
