Class Action Lawsuit against Gxxgle in final stages

You may only have until July 31, 2023 to file claim for Gxxgle’s invasion of your privacy if you clicked their links from '06 to '13.

This comes after Mxta had a similar action against them last year.

This link may get you past the NYT article paywall (the Times puts a limit on its usage):

More simpler would be to go to the settlement website “In re Google Referrer Header Privacy Litigation”, United States District Court for the Northern District of California Case No. 5:10-cv-4809-EJD as cited in the article, which describes how to file a claim.

IMO, since this is a settlement where Google (Alphabet, rather, the owners of Google … nice to know that knowledge is clear to the public  ) agreed to pay a fixed amount of $23 million to the “settlement class members who file claims, payments to class representatives, attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, and settlement administration costs,” there’s only slactivist value in including yourself in the class. From a personal financial perspective, it’s not valuable as the individual payout is estimated at $7.70/person. It’s a shame the class party agreed to what amounts to 0.01% of its annual profits (of about $230 billion), or approximately 50 minutes of annual profits.

By opting-in to the class group, you are essentially saying your search query-privacy, in total, forever is about $7.70. I’ll opt out of the class until the value of my privacy is taken seriously.
