Which version? There was a version in crimson that failed to set the default to DuckDuckGo (which is different than setting the default to Google, even though the end result is the same), but it’s been already fixed some time ago.
A related question: Do we have the ability to split user and root passwords?
I was recalling a memory of this changing in Byzantium. Unfortunately, whenever the default changed to Google, I changed it back to some other thing without recording the time when the default jumped, so I don’t have good evidence or versioning to provide on this one, at leat not that I recall.
Perfect (v140.3.1esr)!
I want Gnu Dawn on my Librem 5, Please Please @dos ![]()
Again Gnu Crimson on Right →
Gnome Files app it is one of big changes on crimson including black theme support.
So looks like gnu crimson it is the first mobile os to full use it on night!.
@dos another app that get ported to GTK4 on Gnome v42 it is Gnome Baobao, but on crimson do not looks mobile interface, so maybe got Libhandy2.2(adw) support later over Gnome v44?
Thanks you dos. ![]()
Again Gnu Crimson on Right →
@dos calculator has a pointer bug too as you can see it.
Wow Crimson is full GTK4 feel.
carlosgonz, you know that you can add every flathub app you want… so you can use that if you add it through flathub, - and have enough Disc space?
I do not want any Flatpak because bloat the system and spend more energy plus more heat, so i want my L5 on best balance to daily use.
I do not have Librem 5 Liberty, so disc space is small 32Gbs?
Do you own a L5?
Interesting! I didn’t know it! Please, Carlos, what do you prefer? Dpkg?
Gracias ![]()
Yes. ![]()
I had complete dark mode on Byzantium through gsettings
it is impossible. Howto without Gnome.Files 42?
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface color-scheme "prefer-dark"
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme "Adwaita-dark"
Try that and see what you think
I’m really happy with Crimson, however, I tried to use PureMaps the other day and it could not get a GPS fix. I tried the Satellite app and same deal. It’s been so long since I setup Byzantium that I forget if I had to do something to get GPS to work.
Anyone else having GPS problems with Crimson?
Usually it’s a matter of patience and access to clear sky. Downloading GPS almanac from the sky takes about 12 minutes on a single channel. For the impatient, there are ways to speed it up: Assisted GNSS ($1207) · Snippets · GitLab
Note that the Satellite app won’t have permissions to access the module regardless of whether it works or not, unless you configure your system in unsecure ways.
Well, I made the upgrade last night and so far things are mostly looking really good.
The upgrade on the camera is huge! The picture quality is somewhat better, but the smooth frame rate makes recording videos a really nice experience. This is great!
The overall phone UI seems snappier as well.
My only two big issues so far:
-
Gnome Maps won’t launch. It worked when I first flashed and did get a GPS fix. But after an
apt dist-upgradeit won’t open. No errors when starting from the terminal. I haven’t tried the flatpak version yet.
@Photon PureMaps is working for me w/ GPS.
Edit: This was fixed by runninggsettings reset-recursively org.gnome.Maps. No clue why this was needed. -
Bluetooth isn’t working. I could previously use my BT headphones and connect to a car but neither are pairing for me now.
I’m still trying to work out what could be wrong with both of these problems.
Update:
Fix for Bluetooth on Crimson (at least for me):
I found errors in journalctl while trying to pair mentioning a2dp_sink not being found, so this got me thinking about pulseaudio.
After running sudo apt install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth and restarting the phone, I was able to pair with my BT headphones.
This should probably be a default package if we’re still using pulseaudio. Will open an issue I suppose.
Bonus: The headphones now work for audio input as well as output. This was not possible on Byzantium. Good stuff!
I upgraded to Crimson using apt full-upgrade after changing apt sources.list to crimson. Everything seems to be working fine. My few issues have been due to things I modified.
I have not too (the storage, or a Liberty, but yes a L5). I use a microsd with round about 464 GB as extension. And have stored the users files like Music, Pictures, Downloads, Videos… and so i have from my 29 GB right now 16 GB free space. And i am sure that flathub seems to be more efficient since my last test. It may be because crimson is more up to date and share more libraries like the shipped legacy librem5 OS from 2022.
No offense here, about it. It is like it is. And i may sound a bit harsh cause my English is bad.
I just want to share that i do not have this bug and use Gnome Calculator 49.2 here. I use flathub.org and download the install package and opened it via L5 File Browser and open the file. Then it will be installed through the PureOS Update app. And it too will be updated automatically if there is an update. I know that the rest of my Gnome OS is not as up to date like this.. but it works. Just need some extra seconds to launch.
