I am aware that this site doesn’t support Windows, due to it not being free software, but since I need it for some work-related applications, I use a VM; the problem is that the cursor doesn’t work at all in the VM, neither in the installer nor the actual installed OS. The keyboard works, and I can navigate that way, but it’s quite inconvenient. I haven’t tried a different OS (i.e., a GNU/Linux-based OS), but was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to fix it. Thanks!

You probably need to install the guest additions for the Spice protocol that GNOME Boxes uses, see the “guest” section of https://www.spice-space.org/download.html (if your guest OS is Linux it’s a matter of installing the “spice-vdagent” package, if Windows you have an installer for “spice-guest-tools”.
There may also be some blog posts and tutorials about all this on the Internet, here’s an example: https://ctrl.blog/entry/how-to-win10-in-gnome-boxes
