Development for Librem 5, UBports, help me understand

Dear Community,

Could some one please help me understand.

Given the following info on blogs etc:

  • Purism teamed up with UBports
  • UBports produces “Ubuntu Touch”

Now would it be useful to setup a phone like the Nexus 5 or the Fairphone 2 with UBports on it installed to start developing for Ubuntu Touch until the dev-kit of the Librem 5 arrives?

My question drills down to:
Is any application development on Ubuntu Touch/UBports usable on the Librem 5 at the end?

Grz,
JWR

I was thinking of getting a Nexus 5 to use on either UT or Plasma Mobile to get an idea of how well it will work for me as a daily driver before the Librem 5 comes out. I would think applications would work BETTER on the Librem 5 than they would on an Android phone because they’re not having deal with proprietary hardware/kernel issues. It couldn’t hurt to try it out…

Any application developed for UT will run on the Librem 5 if you install UT on the Librem 5.

The Librem 5 will be default run PureOS. Whether UT apps run on PureOS is anyone’s guess. In my experience UT apps don’t really run very well on anything but UT, which is a major flaw IMHO.
