hi i have a new librem laptop with pureboot and i have just update the os
now when i reboot the computer it says error boot hash mismatch and that initrd.img has failed the verification process
i can update the checksum and go on my way, but i just wanted to see if this was expected behaviour

yes, it is, since the update has updated boot files which now do not match the stored hashes anymore. Since you did the upgrade yourself and hopefully trust yourself and the process it is safe to updated the hashes afterwards. A subsequent new boot should then verify OK again.
