Sure they don’t, their policical risks are very low (if not neglectible) and lobbying power is very high. So very simple decision making process.
An excellent point a lot of people don’t seem to grasp when it comes to justifying surveillance because of terrorism or crime plotting. The people who plan bigger crimes, ones the FBI and NSA would actually be interested in, actually know how to use tech in a way that wont be compromising (generally). Seriously, how many times have you ever heard of a major terrorism or crime plot being completely unveiled and thwarted because your government was able to intercept? It almost never happens. Now if I saw that crimes were being stopped every week, my attitude may change. The mass surveillance is nowhere near justified for its “intended” purpose. Never has been, probably never will.

It’s unfortunately due to the fact that the masses give 0 shits about their private data. I hate it when these people toss around the phrase “if you’re not doing anything wrong, then what do you have to worry about?” That’s the dangerous kind of thinking that ends you up in a Big Brother situation, where you’ve let the government have the power of mass surveillance and accept it to the point that you would actually start reporting people to the police simply for the act of protecting your privacy. Its a slippery slope. I know most people here already know this stuff. Just important to parrot it to whomever you can.

Based on what country? The U.S.? It was the World Wide Web, now it’s Local Wide Web, but each has their own ‘common law’ and a ‘law’ is only a law as interpreted by the country’s highest courts.
Depends on which government you are referring to. The world is full of governments an that idea depends again on what country you think rules the Internet. Too, there is a huge difference between the email we might send to our grandma and a document between governments.
ALL communication should be private. We’ve seen what happens to internal government email in the U.S (Clinton, Trump, CIA, FBI, Homeland Security…) all have had their embarrassing communication moments.
Whether there are backdoors or not, gov’t will find ways of circumventing our rights to privacy. Google, Microsoft, and ilk have been doing it for years - and that is why the giants and their little minions are allowed to carry on raping our right to privacy, because gov’t can get what they need from the giants! Honour amongst thieves…, and perverts, peeps, stalkers, pimps… they are all wrapped in the same plain brown paper.
As long as we keep using the white-washed, watered-down terms like “tracking”, the more successful THEY become with the brainwashing.

If you knew only how powerful you are, Sharon. That goes for all of mankind, not just you, btw. More and more wake up and SET their law. That’s what those of us who are a little further into the process of waking up do. We give up the titles such as “citizen”, “subject” (what a ridiculous idea btw - which man or woman would agree to be “subject” to any odd entity called state or gov or otherwise??).We have all free will. As long as people argue for their limitations and fail to educate themselves they do drown in the “legalese” such as this EU cr…p which those of mankind with “jobs” in gov, corporations etc invent to keep the rest of us small. Sad thing is teh minions have no clue that the domino house they’re working so hard to build is their own demise, too. Just step out of the matrix, mate, create your future, be happy. It is possible. Many of us are doing it and building our own governing systems. If you haven’t heard of this yet, you’re simply still stuck in the old world with all its restrictions. Research, research, research. Who looks, finds…

The Strawman - should you choose to watch it, things become clear(er). Applies everywhere on the planet btw, to those of mankind, meaning to any living man or woman (remember - “countries”, “citizens”, “hue-man” are terms of the ficticious system). No matter “common law” or “civil law” systems, “EU” and what not - those are all part of the “legal system”. The law of the living, law of the land, universal law, natural law, ten commandments are those that apply to mankind.
The LAW is very simple: do no harm to another wo/man, cause no loss to the property of another wo/man, transact with honour at all times, uphold the peace at all times. Simples. Four rules everyone can remember. No need for gazillions of statutes, acts, codes, rules, regulations which no wo/man can remember. Those are only there for the corporations which are the countries, cities, courts, police to make money of those of mankind who agree to play monopoly in the legal system and believe this is their life.

note that im yet to check out these resources, as well as im not a lawyer, but im also about to figure out these… at 3rd, im not a native speaker, and i may easily make mistakes even in the terminology of law… 
so, 1st of all, universal human rights are the defaults, however, ppl organize themselves, and rules and privileges come with joining to these organizations, where lets say its a country or whatever… when u born, u cant make decisions about urself by ur free will, and then, the state/country/whatever adopt/register u to their community and take care of u by their best effort… (this is based on either blood or land.) ur parents belong to that community they will register u to, and that community will provide them the rights to parent u, if they fit, and if they are known, whatever… joining to a community is really about taking responsibilities restrictions and rights, and it is about giving up ur freedom! this had been done by ur parents, now u belong to a sovereign country, that is a community, and that is declared by its members as sovereign, or otherwise it is governed by an another entity “above” that one, but at a point, there is sovereignty, nothing above. this community have no higher rights as the human beings in it, and 2 human beings have the same level of rights as a single one. there are people who doesnt belong to any such community, like refugees, but there are other reasons for this… when u dont belong, then u r like a diplomat, but u arent a subject of the law of an another country, u r subject of the universal human rights and should be tempted accordingly the international law, where even war is a subject of its guidances… so, the interesting part is that the system is an opt-in game, while uve been opted-in without asking u at all! however, acceptance by silence applies, and u have a living contract, this is the interesting part… it starts with ur registration into the parish register, and u have ur id card, that is ur part of the contract, that identifies u and denotes the contract for a fixed period of time. the question is how can u opt-out during its period, or if anybody could enforce u to renew it? contracts can be broken up, and a requirement for that, that im aware of, is that u shouldnt have any debt towards the other party, and i strongly believe that an investigation for violating the law or an active punishment is also a thing that prevents escaping… as long as u play kind, others wont harm u (probably) but when its about revenge, then its about revenge, thats a thing that others can enforce, and others will protect u if u can be considered to be innocent, this is kinda like the law of the jungle… its about two beings can or cant play nice, when its about a human being and a country, its the very same game, cuz a country isnt above human beings, other than by their acceptance! not those outside of the community, but their members! however, back to the beginning, when u have born, u couldnt take responsibility for urself, from ur own free will, while u can be considered to be able at all to make any sane decisions! and this is the point! growing up doesnt mean this either! no age 18 or 21 makes a miracle! a person, isnt considered to be a human being, by that very reason, i have talked about… a person is dead. when u born, u come out of water, and the international law of sea applies, u r like cargo, nothing more, u have age, weight, value whatever, like a box of toys from china, that arrives by a ship, and registered accordingly. it is reasonable, cuz u had no reasonable selfconsciousness to qualify as a human being… somebody who has serious disabilities will always be “parented”, cuz they cant take responsibility for themselves… but where is the margin to become a human being? only God can declare u to be one! so what? the pope is God’s resident on earth, and only he can say so, and he even need to put his palm on u for a reason i dunno, but its a part of the process… hell on earth, how can this make sense??? there are sovereign ppl on earth, they are declared as such right this way, and for example here u can find some: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovereign_Military_Order_of_Malta so there is some chance that what im talking about is not a total nonsense… related stuff is that the law court “summons” u, like if u would be dead, and they act like this, and the place is strictly organized on a manner that resembles to a ship, again, cuz the law of sea, cuz this way, a different set of rules apply, like a captain can even declare marriages, but im yet to take a deeper investigation into these parts, but the fun is that this whole nonsense may be true! there are some bits i could confirm by my researches, and there are some that may be only a matter of some conspiracy theories… back to the beginning of this whole story, there are organizations, and they have rights, and ppl should give up their freedom to take part in any. these are by contracts, and when u sign a contract, then u do the same, but these have a hierarchy, ur contract cant go against the law, above it… companies have this hierarchy (they say… but i couldnt find anything reasonable, cuz all what i have found is about inner hierarchy… ehh…) and guess what, there are human beings at the top of all of them! they say, that the vatican, london, and washington dc are independent entities (im sure about the vatican, and i think i have heard this about washington too, and london is interesting with all of the strict ceremonies that take place there) they dont pay tax, they cant be ruled by their respective countries, and human being are at the top of all of them, but not persons, these 3 are the top of the hierarchies of the companies… these are global entities for purposes like religion, businesses (or something very similar) and military respectively to the above list, they are respected and recognized as such, and this is why the pope matters, cuz one needs to show up something globally accepted… otherwise it would be a matter of a declaration that one recognized their selfconsciousness and sovereignty and what not, but that isnt recognized by entities, but this, from ur behalf, is a prerequisite in itself as far as i can tell…
nice fairy tale, i know, u can find more info on sites that maintain flat earth news and the like, but still, those can be useful to get keywords and basic concepts to make real investigation… im in the middle of it, and i dare to say that it can even be true, but its actually hard to reach hard facts, while the basics are extremely reasonable, and multiple individuals reached to this conclusion that i have tried to build up, however i still have much to research to be sure about this story…
Slightly pedantic of me, I know, but this is hard to read with all the u’s and ur’s and ppl’s and cuz’s, not to mention the lack of apostrophes and capitalization. There’s no need to type like that unless you’re on a flip phone and have to press the 8 key twice just to type “u.”
