After applying the most recent L5 Byzantium updates that came out yesterday (or the day before), FirefoxESR no longer loads websites; they just time out. Has anybody else experienced this? If so, have you found any solutions to make it function again?
Does it work with epiphany or brave ?
For me firefox is working, also after the most recent updates.
Do you have an example of a specific website for which it does not work for you?
One thing to try could be to start firefox from the commandline and see if there are some interesting error messages printed there. (and also look if journalctl says something)
Not Epiphany; I donāt use Brave.
No websites will load; Iāll give the commandline a try soon (afk for a bit) and follow up; thank you.
Iām sure it seems that way, but for troubleshooting purposes it helps to be specific. You did not actually try all websites, so you donāt really know for certain that no websites will load, you only know that the ones you tried have failed to load? If you give an example of a specific url that does not work for you, then others can try the same and we donāt need to wonder if we get different results because we are testing different urls.
Here is a page that works for me: https://www.fsf.org/ ā does that fail to load for you?
Browser will not load if DATE is wrong.
It fails to load.
The Date is correct.
I just updated my device yet, rebooted and Firefox still loads pages. Does the update command on terminal connects to the internet? And how do you connect to the internet: WLAN or mobile network?
terminal states: [GFX1-]: glxtest: DRM render node not cclearly detectable. Falling back to using hte only one that was found before Firefox-ESR launches
Journalctl states:
purism@l5:~$ journalctl -xe | grep firefox

I had both WLAN and Mobile turned on; after turning off Mobile, pages are loading. Looks like some interference between the two. Going to look into this issue further and will follow upā¦
So yes, Iām now at the point where i can browse the internet as long as I have mobile turned off and WLAN on - which is an improvement. Iām not yet sure how to get browsing to work when both are turned on again.
Maybe your issue is not about firefox but just internet connection.
You can try pinging something, for example:
ping 9.9.9.9
it seems there is some issue when both mobile and wlan are turned onā¦
When both mobile and wlan are turned on - pinging produces 64 bytes from 9.9.9.9: icmp_seq=# ttl=57 time=~30s. When mobile is turned off, the same result occurs.
So to be clear, if only mobile is enabled you are still able to view websites as well?
tac /etc/resolv.conf
Share outputā¦
No; websites wonāt load with just mobile.
I want to thank you all for helping me out; Iām starting to wonder if Purism cut my data due to reaching my SIMple limit and now is causing the aforementioned issue. My subscription payment processed yesterday so maybe this will resolve itself on Monday. Iāll let you know and hope you have a good weekend.
Purism doesnāt cut the data once a usage limit is reached; this occurs automatically by the MNO based on the service plan selected.
I recommend:
- Check your wireless data usage
- If your limit has been reached, contact the wireless support department to make arrangements for data top-off and payment. (There is no method for automatic data top-offs at this time, but this is planned for the future.)
