It is already from last 4 day ago on L5, check your wallpaper on setting if you are on Gcrimson.
I think they used it in a Daily Show bit for a few seconds, suggesting the same thing.

I pretty sure that the fancy cat from dos will make a better wallpaper for Gcrimson.

This looks terrible:
It need a lot more blur to looks ok which will cause the entire content of the image will gone, as the background image it contains too much artifacts which the brain do not like and make stress.
So as on mobile not all wallpaper is approved for Mobile, it requires a mobile design structure to enable wallpapers(not all) without interfering with our cognitive processes and the system icons.

But you are free to set a completely uniform wallpaper of whatever RGB value you want?
I’m not much of a fan of fancy wallpaper (desktop or mobile), perhaps for the same reason that you are suggesting.
