Google so desperately wants you to use its Gemini AI, it is now silently and stealthily installing it inside your browser. Of course - and as usual - no notification, no consent asked and dark pattern opt-out:
I don’t have Chrome installed. Problem solved?
“silent and stealthy” and “4GB download” would be a contradiction in terms for me. ![]()
that meet certain hardware levels
It would be useful to know what that is.
Obviously some constrained environments might not have 4GB of disk space free, or would go into the red zone and be at risk of failing due to full disk as a consequence of this download.
Then there are devices connected to the internet on metered plans, who may not want to be hit with an extra 4GB download (which may cost the user actual money or may result in the internet connection getting shaped by the provider).
Neither do I, so never have any problem!
I agree. I rather thought about it this way: most people who use Chrome, wouldn’t know or care anyway - but I may be a little biased…
Did Google intentionally make this name a bit similar to Genisys? ![]()
