This is the outcome of a very long judicial battle and Google lost in appeal:
This time, there will be no “no-wrongdoing arrangements” with the justice: they are guilty and they will have to pay the fine!

Fine, a drop in the bucket + virtue signalling = a slap on the wrist.
Yes but it was not enough. You know the phone and the training for A.I. or some LLMs it was worth much more in daytime seconds…
However it was good and like needed to have.. but Europe still have no competitive LLM.
They did choose to appeal though. It’s more than just a nuisance fine that a business would pay simply to make it go away.
Right, Google decided to stall the legal process and defer the verdict while they continued to extract value from their monopolistic practices, so the fine is subsidized.
Sometimes a company is more concerned about the precedent than about the case itself, fined or not.
Google removed the “Don’t be evil” from their corporate documents in 2018. Now they are only (allegedly) striving to “Do the right thing”.
I’m not sure if their reputation suffers by being fined for being anti-competitive:
Google had abused its dominant position in online search by using Android licensing agreements to secure preferential placement for its own services. According to the Commission, manufacturers seeking access to the Google Play Store were required to pre-install Google Search and the Chrome browser on their devices. In addition, Google imposed so-called anti-fragmentation agreements that prevented manufacturers from selling devices running Android forks not approved by Google.
Money is irrelevant in this case. They should be forced to spin off android from the company.
Perception of reputation is irrelevant if Google still remains the sole monopolistic incubent to repossess the infrastructural power afterwards.
