Graphics glitches on Librem 5

Hi everybody!

There are severe graphics stuttering and glitches with some apps from Flatpak when run on my Librem 5 (PureOS Crimson). For example, Audiotube (org.kde.audiotube).

The glitches appear for split second and include:

  • repeated interface freezes;
  • disappearing interface elements;
  • sometimes, a bright transparent triangle appears over the window;
  • pictures inside various interface elements are corrupted.

Can anyone check whether it is reproducible on their device? I want to know whether the problem is with a broken hardware, or is in software (drivers?).

Obvious question … did you experience the same on PureOS byzantium or is that not applicable?

I am pretty sure I do not remember these apps working properly on byzantium, but I also do not remember whether I used Audiotube before the upgrade. And another app with glitches have always had various problems on all devices and platforms. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

And also, I’ve just run the glxgears, and it works properly. :thinking:

Let to start to say that Flatpak and Waydroid is Evil for Librem 5, if you dont believe me then ask you why you are here about.

Evil flatpak it is using newer gtk which dropped support for GL ACCEL, so this is why.
Some critical HARD ACCEL for BUTTER still off on L5, thanks to super evil linux & opensource. IMHO.

This just mean that device is ready for basic 3D, i love 2.5D Games.

If some API is not implemented, I would expect that an app which depends on it would not run at all instead of misbehaving like this. :thinking:

I’ve just disabled video acceleration (device=dri) for Audiotube with FlatSeal. As expected, no glitches, but now it hits CPU bottleneck.

Yes, I know. Several FOSS apps I need either only have aarch64 builds in Flatpack, or are developed exclusively for Android.

So yes, other people also experience glitches in Flatpak apps. I will hope for a miracle the implementation of related API in GPU drivers will be eventually fixed.

I have plans to release a: scriptish to enable gles3 on Gcrimson, however i super slow to release it as i full disappointed by the situation with Gpure shipping garbages: wayland, systemd, flatpak, waydroid, blobs on spi.

I fully hate systemd.
