How do I change the default desktop environment in PureOS? [Librem 5]

Hello everyone!

I installed the Crimson Alpha release today and wanted to attempt to run KDE Plasma on the device, following Debian’s steps: Mobian/Tweaks - Debian Wiki

However, I cannot seem to change the default desktop environment. I attempted to search in a few areas I would expect but failed to find a proper solution.

As a side note, it seems you can’t click options to configure display managers in the default terminal (such as this). However, this does work properly if you install the mate-terminal package—and perhaps other terminal emulators.

Thank you all so much for any help/support! I immensely appreciate it.

Upvote: I just posted the same question for librem-11 - I dislike gnome in general, and gnome-shell is swamping the limited memory.

Nice.

Phosh is Native and Symbiotic for Librem 5, however Plasma Mobile DO NOT, so if you install Plasma on Librem 5 you will lost some Synergy. If i remember well someone installed Plasma on Librem 5, i not sure which thread was but i guess you need to purge the phosh enviroment then install plasma enviroment.

Theoretically, Plasma-QT should run dramatically better than Phosh-GTK, as Qt already has massive optimizations for mobile. However, QT relies heavily on GLES 3.1, which Librem 5 lacks.

Plasma also relies on zwp_linux_dmabuf_v1, which i do not know if Gnu PureOS supports.

I think the Librem 11 disaster have to be better luck for Plasma on GLES3+.

zwp_linux_dmabuf_v1 it is big disaster thanks to things mainline.

We are losing the freedom and the control via Mainline, thanks to Ultra Evil Fedora.
We are all slaves for Fedora right now. Fedora has Ubuntu, Debian, Linuxmint, ArchLinux and OpenSUSE on their knees and face down.

For the Librem 11, it should be fairly standard.

The Librem 5’s situation is a bit unique with its mobile device greeter.

I have really grown to like the suckless software philosophy and am curious how I could turn dwm (dwl because wayland) into a mobile interface. I have done quite a bit of patching to dwm to suite my preferences for desktop, but have not looked at dwl’s code yet, maybe I will set up a vm with wayland to tinker in my free time.
