I think this was answered before, but I just spent a couple hours trying to track down where the chatty process is spawed, and failed (even with AI).
How do I disable the launch of chatty? I need it to shut the h**l up while I fix the DB. For months I have killed the mms daemon because it adds to the endless proliferation of broken/unsent mms messages, which show up in several places in the purple/mms/chatty DB files.
Thanks. I really dislike Gnome.
Piling on unrelated Q: is it possible to run LXQt instead of the default L5 desktop?
I finally found where it is launched. /etc/xdb/autostart/sm.puri.Chatty-daemon.desktop
However, I think I have to restart the entire system for it to be recognized. Maybe there’s a simpler way but I’m tired of digging.
The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from. I am not a fan of the kitchen-sink/connect-everything-to-everything direction of end user software. UNIX began with a simple philosophy that seems to have been abandoned long ago, sadly.
You may want to try PostmarketOS, it has setups like sxmo that are better for “power users.” PureOS is designed to be accessible for nontechnical users, so it is very opinionated. I recommend trying it on SD card first.
Too bad pureos doesn’t support choice of user login on the phone (unlike mobian, which just works).
Next best seems to me to boot phone from SD card, mount the EMMC, copy the DB to something with a good keyboard and screen, fix the DB, copy it back, shut phone down, boot phone from EMMC.
