How Long Should I Wait for OS Update

  1. List itemTurned L5 on, saw message that there were updates.
  2. Logged in from the mode sleep, pause whatever just pressing the power button once.
  3. Pulled message area down. No more update message -anywhere.
  4. Searched internet and tried the Open PureOS Store, and opened OS Updates" after 12 minutes, another message “No update description available”.
  5. Moved down to “Update All”. for FFmpeg extension with extra codecs, Mesa and Mesa EXTRA).
  6. Clicked update all.
  7. “Checking…” "Loading Update… + “This could take a while.”
  8. Please, define “a while”.
  9. After 14 minutes “Checking…” hangs for 15 seconds" screen changes to OS Update available" + “Download” shows for about 12 seconds and returns to the “Checking… " + “Loading updates” + This could take a while” then it goes back to Step 5 above.

“Installed” at the top of the screen has same sort of meltdown - it just puts up a screen with program names and closes then open again doing the same.

In researching these - issues - I see that security and updates.upgrades reached EOL in August. Today when turning on L5, there were update/grade messages that snuck through the EOL. Long line EOLs.

AI recommended this:

  • Open the Terminal app on your Librem 5.
    • Run the package update command:
    • bash - sudo apt update
    • Use code with caution.

There was a long list then the error or more like nonconforming.

SUMMARY:

I just wanted to fix the camera, but one thing led to another.
Is there a way to get the updates, or is it not possible now that there is no support for my L5.

And why would EOL stuff still show updates available?

Should I follow through on *AIs suggestions here"

That EOL only applies if you haven’t upgraded from byzantium (PureOS 10) yet. But I think any waiting updates from before EOL of byzantium should still be there for you to download.

Can you run sudo apt update again, and if there are any updates found, run sudo apt upgrade, and if there are any errors, post them here in the forum. (The sudo apt upgrade command only upgrades packages, not the operating system.)

Sometimes i do the terminal and apt update and apt upgrade call.. however. The download and update from Pureos Store have sometimes issues and hang and will only progress after a reboot and check for updates to download again…

I have no End Of Live updates suggested. But likely because i done some reboot before.

Edit: However in times of security updates with zero day exploit patches i thing you have to apply this update as soon as possible.

Please post output from lsb_release -c

Caution though. I think that I am right in saying that you can’t upgrade to crimson unless you are fully up to date with byzantium. So if Sharon is still on byzantium then these updates will have to be successfully applied.

Good point. Here’s hoping that a thorough update of @Sharon 's byzantium system will fix some or all of the problems and enable her to upgrade to crimson, rather than have to reflash (and thus lose settings and installed apps). If she is still on byzantium, I mean.
