How to route Hotspot traffic over VPN or Tor?

I have tried the command

torsocks nmcli connection up Hotspot

But I get the error:

Unsupported syscall number 275. Denying the call (in tsocks_syscall() at syscall.c:567

I have also tried ProtonVPN:

protonvpn-cli connect

followed by starting the hotspot through the Wi-Fi settings GUI. However, that doesn’t seem to work either. Has anyone successfully routed hotspot traffic through Tor or a VPN?

*I am using a pinephone with manjaro-phosh for now, until my L5 arrives.
