International Repo mirrors

I have noticed how my sudo apt update takes longer on pure OS than on previous ubuntu/mint installations did. Is it possible this is due to the lack of international mirrors, I can’t see any info on mirrors on the purism site so I assume they’re hosted as a sub-domain of puri.sm (repo.puri.sm), long story short only one mirror. I was wondering if you could improve the speed updates by letting members of the community host mirrors (i have a server with spare space on it and would be happy to do so). Is this a possibility or are the security implications to bad (you could be given a non-sudo user account on the server and thus could monitor to make sure no changes were made to the repo’s). I’m not very experienced with mirrors (for all I know you may need to host the actual code as well) but if this would be of use please feel free to ask.

p.s general suggestions on how to increas
