I asked this question to firstname.lastname@example.org and here’s the answer I’ve got:
Basically, if the package is lost, and USPS can’t trace it by any means, we won’t be refunded for that package (and neither would you) if there is no insurance. If there’s an insurance, the cost of the lost package is covered by the USPS. To be honest, we still didn’t have any lost packages.
