I need help please…!!!
I got a L1UM server with pureOS preinstalled on it, and it is super super slow…
When running htop, the process /usr/bin/gnomme-shell shows 100% usage and goes 120% when moving mouse cursor.
I used strace with the corresponding pid and it shows 98.01 (time) 45(seconds) usecs/call(120131) calls(375) errors (none) syscall(ioctl).
I dont know how to fix this but it is really annoying i cant do anything as it is lagging way too much…
I tried install proxmox via usb boot but then it says openpgp valid data not found ( ive got the iso(.iso) and the sha256sum (.asc) on the usb key).
Overall i would like to install proxmox on it.
A hand would much more than appreciated.
please i need help…
Iam now trying to install debian server, usb boot works it gets me to a menu choosing which install i want (graphical, expert, rescue, etcc…) i tried selecting several but then it gets stuck at ‘Starting the new Kernel’ and nothing happens nothing responds…
Random nerd writing from a librem 14 here, not someone with a L1UM, but I am running MATE on PureOS instead of GNOME, so basically some fork of GNOME2 instead of GNOME3, and when I drag a window sometimes CPU usage goes to 100%.
Literally got to all these 40% cpu usages while running literally nothing. But my user experience is super smooth. However, I am also using SeaBIOS/Coreboot stuff instead of PureBoot so I boot insecurely and am less secure, using the device basically as my workspace for having fun rather than being particularly paranoid.
How many cores does your server have? Why are you using it for being a graphical system instead of a headless server? Can you check if your GNOME shell is using intel integrated graphics, or if it is doing maybe some software rendering?
So my Librem 14 where I am writing to you from has the beautiful Intel integrated graphics 1080p output, and the internet says if I want to check graphics drivers I can try these commands:
NOTE: in order to run glxinfo above, I had to sudo apt install mesa-utils, as it was apparently not installed by default.
Edit:
So, if it’s not clear, what I’m saying is that if your server gets different outputs than what I got above, maybe you are burning up CPU time doing the render instead of using OpenGL and graphics drivers, or something like that. If you can conclude that is the problem and yours is different, it may be helpful to you, but what I am writing here is by no means a full solution.
thanks for your answers!
yes i think thats the gui slowing everything thats why iam trying to install another linux server distrib (debian atm) without gui.
right now iam updating firmware to coreboot/seabios to see if it makes others os installation working…
I got 8 cores, intel xeon D 15-41.
VGA ASPEED Technology, Inc. ASPEED Graphics family (rev 30)
server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: Mesa Project and SGI
OpenGL vendor string VMware, Inc.
I think indeed its the gui slowing the system.
Iam trying to install debian server os with no gui but cant manage to do it…
I could be wrong but isn’t this like some kind of red flag? It sounds like you are running the GUI inside of a virtual machine and not actually on the server. That’s weird…
Well Aspeed Gpu it is just for Console output as Aspeed only support gles1.0.
So for Gpu acceleration for Gnu OS it need a dedicated GPUs. Intel ARC D2(A40 series on ur case) with Freedo v6.10 it will work Libremente out of the box. However i still need to do some heavy test to determine. I just say.
I got an external usb plugged dvd reader (cant burn stuff on it), so I did burn a DVD, not through DISC as i dont have any way to do it, but did it via desktop pc windows and it is still not working.
In BIOS, I click on usb boot and it says no usb key inserted, I did make sure the DVD reader is recognized by pureOS.
Please help me changing OS I really need a solution !!!
No just turned on the server and tried directly to change OS. I have done nothing else, no installation, no modification, only connected it to internet.
update:
I have managed to install Ubuntu server 22.04.3 LTS.
but i still have pureboot when turning on the server asking me for the librem key.
I can boot ubuntu via boot option and show os boot then i select ubuntu.
no lag, it works smooth, it was indeed the gui.
But when booting its asking me for the libremkey and actually i need to select “ignore tampering and force a boot (Unsafe!)” to be able to boot in ubuntu.
How do i make it booting directly to ubuntu server ?
Enable pureboot Basic mode ?
Sadly i never used Pureboot and i do not know how turn off security things to boot directly the system. However it may burn Coreboot than Pureboot in order to boot directly pure-opensource Ubuntu System on server.
