L5 in suspend but warm

I’m in Havana, Cuba, for a Filmfest and have my L5 always in suspend mode and in my backpack. The energy consume is approximately 10% per hour. When I go into my backpack with my hand to pull it out to check some mails, it feels warm.

Why?

I live in an area that gets fairly hot (110 F or 40 C) and I noticed that even with suspend, the phone will stay a little warm even in suspend even when not in direct sunlight or anything.

Another explanation could be it woke up from an SMS or carrier call and it had heated back up shortly before going into suspend again.

I think even in suspend the phone uses a lot of energy compared to your typical spybrick. Unfortunately, if I recall correctly, this is a limitation of the NXP chipset in the L5 and is unlikely to change? Others will correct me if I’m wrong, hopefully.

For me, if I know that I won’t be using the phone for a few hours, I will often shut it off for that time.

Or if that isn’t an option, placing the phone in front of a fan makes a big difference!

What is your suspend delay on battery set to?

Mine is 1 minute to keep it suspended as much as possible, and it generally stays pretty cool when not actively used. As others mentioned, it’ll wake up for calls/SMS, and it won’t suspend again until the delay elapses. If you have a very long suspend delay, it might not suspend at all if SMS or calls keep it awake.

Mine is one minute too. And I‘m in Cuba and get nearly 0 calls and SMS. I will check later the logs to see when the L5 waked up.

The phone was in suspend from 09:13 to 12:02 without being waked-up by calls or SMS:
