I didn’t see any particular post regarding developing, or supporting a world modem for the L5. It appears that would be a good way to simplify the store checkout process since the selection by modem region could be eliminated.
Additional benefit would be for maintenance and resale of the phone since the phone would become transferable across regions and it would remove the complexity in figuring out what modem is installed.

The real benefit would be the ability to travel with the device - but maybe that was implicit in your post.
At the current time, it would seem to be dependent on Broadmobi providing a drop-in compatible BM818 that is the global variant.

I wonder if these regional versions of the modem a matter of different firmware or different hardware is/are.
