Liberty Phone, anonymous radio module

What if one of the radio modules is denied access to GPS? Perhaps 1 e-sim + 1 satellite-based?

You may have to expand your thought a bit so it can be grasped.

In Librem 5 the modem radio is denied GNSS (including GPS) access by not providing it an antenna, as per security design, and thus the system (and the apps) is denied GNSS via that radio. The other radio, the wifi card, doesn’t have GNSS. The third radio, the inbuilt GNSS receiver, is separately controlled. I quess you could disable it more firmly by disconnecting its the antenna, if you wished and don’t trust the software switches and system controls. To be clear: you don’t need to have any GNSS location services enabled if you don’t want to (using all 3 HW kill switches on L5 will disable GNSS and other sensors too).

There has been some eSIM talk but it wouldn’t affect GNSS. Of course, there are other location methods than satellite based (via GSM/4G/5G towers, data services etc.). And as far as I know, the current L5 modems are not able to do any other satellite communications (I’m doubtful that L5 antennas could reach the satellite based 5G services, if they would ever be offered for devices like it).

Does this answer your question?
