Librem 14 battery wont charge

I noticed my Librem 14 battery won’t charge.

I’ve basically always used it plugged in until recently, so this something I didn’t notice before.

My battery is currently charged to 59% of capacity, but it will not charge when I plug in the power cable.

I followed the instructions I found in a related post, installed librem-ec-acpi-dkms and restarted.

My charge thresholds are as follws:

$ cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_control_start_threshold
85

$ cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_control_end_threshold
95

But my battery, which is currently at 59%, will not start charging. (I’ve also try unplugging and replugging in the power cable, but it didn’t help).

Anybody have any ideas?

Purchase a replacement battery.

This seems like a firmware/software/settings issue, rather than a hardware issue, doesn’t it? The operating system is not attempting to charge the battery.

If the operating system were saying “battery charging” but the battery wasn’t charging, then I’d think it was an issue with the physical battery.

Try recharging your Librem 14 battery when it is powered off, then wait an hour or so to see if there is any difference.

Okay, I’m trying that now.

Any time I leave the power plugged in while the Librem 14 is powered down, I hear a constant high pitched “wheeeeeee” sound. (It has always done this, since the first day I owned it).

I’ll let it sit for a while and see if it charges.

That did the trick! I’ve got 100% charge now. Thank you.

Great, mark my post as a solution.

This is usually not good news…
Have other Librem 14 owners experienced such oddity? Is it common for this model?

Coil whine is a normal phenomenon for powered high-speed electronics. My Librem 14 also exhibits the same behavior using the AC adapter.
