Librem 14 v1-02 Pureboot freezing issue

My Librem 14 v1-02 was working correctly on Pureboot 28.2 / EC 1.13.

I updated my Librem 14 v1-02 to Pureboot 30 RC1 and started having these problems:

  • The laptop freezes almost instantly if it is on battery power
  • The laptop will still freeze on AC power, but it will sometimes take up to ~2hrs before it freezes
  • The battery charger status always says “estimating” and never shows a % (PureOS)

To get the laptop working again, I had to downgrade Pureboot to version 29 RC5. The laptop no longer freezes and the battery status is reported correctly again.

@jonathon.hall can we get an update on some of these requests from other posts:

  • Pureboot 30 RC2 status?
  • Syncing Pureboot with the latest coreboot/HEADS commits
  • Updating the Librem Key firmware to use upstream Nitrokey Pro v0.15 firmware
  • Update for EC ROM on Librem 14
  • Easy download links for Pureboot ROM files (especially the recovery versions)

This doesn’t seem to be possible.
See this: Have I Been Pwned - #25 by TiX0
And anyway, the product (NitroKey Pro 2) is being phased out - I don’t even know if one can still purchase it on their site.
But considering some people do have some of these NK Pro 2 with firmware 0.15, I would suggest - if easily feasible - an update to PureBoot’s payload so that it can accept these original NitroKey dongles as well (so we could at least have the most recent firmware available instead of being stuck with 0.10 that is on LibremKeys)

If anyone needs to downgrade to Pureboot 29 RC5, format a flash drive as FAT32 and extract this ROM file on to it:

https://source.puri.sm/firmware/releases/-/raw/1939e3992629c184bba6edffafa3b3df0930969a/librem_14/pureboot-librem_14-Release-29.zip?inline=false

Reboot, press a key to interrupt the boot, then select the flash firmware option from the HEADS GUI menu.

Does this seem to have resolved your problems? (as a workaround only of course)

Yes. After I downgraded to Pureboot 29 RC5, all of my freezing problems stopped and the battery status is reported correctly again.
