Hello computer users. I have a 15v4 and my fan is making very strange noises. It sounds like an old car that was poorly maintained, GRORGRORGRORGRORGROR very bad. Does anyone have a guide for replacing the fan? Can I just replace the fan or do I need to take the whole heat sink assembly out? Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I don’t know about the 15v3, but for the 15v2 it was quite easy to get the fan out. Then identifying the model, I got a replacement, but had to prolong the wires, because they were too short. And then I remember that there was something strange with the color coding of the wires.
Some things are documented in this post:
But I think you already read it.
In principle, it should be not too difficult to replace the fan (try to see if you can take it out), then find a replacement on Amazon with long enough connector wires, it should be plug and play…
Owning a Librem 15v4 myself, I can confirm the fan is very easy to replace. You just have to unscrew the bottom plate and it can then be easily removed from the motherboard: 4 screws hold it in place and a cable terminated with a 2 pins connector (voltage supply)
But the thing is you’d better order the part from Purism Support, so as to be sure of the model you specifically need for the 15/v4 (and avoid wrong cable length or inverted pinout problems)
