hey i have a 2020 librem 15.
hadn’t used it in a while.
got most of it updated, then said it needed the startup drive to finish updates, and so i put it in and it looked like i knew the pin because it went to default area, well i guess i didn’t so now everytime it starts it says entering recovery she’ll and does nothing?
anybody help?
thx
can i just restart the whole librem 15 and erase and start over
Sure you can.
does that reset the pin on my librem vault?
Librem Vaults do not have PINs.
what pin is it asking me for then?
I do not know what you are referring to when you say “it”.
Maybe some screenshots to show the exact sequence of events that are occurring?
Is the boot firmware BIOS or Pureboot? If the latter, are you using a Librem Key?
Are you using an encrypted root file system?
In the absence of anything more concrete, yes, it sounds like you should blow it all away and start again, first rescuing any personal documents etc. if applicable i.e. make a clean start.
when i enter to change hotp/totp secret it ask me to enter Librem key Admin pin:
it’s
doing this even during reset.
that was the pin it was asking for earlier
Reinstalling the operating system does not affect the Librem Key’s admin PIN or PureBoot’s HOTP/TOTP secret, as those are separate.
yeah but what is the librem admin pin?
By default, the Librem Key’s admin PIN is 12345678
.
thank you. well now i just reset it. i restart it and it keeps taking me to recovery shell
says failed default boot
says “bad counter handle”
Press any key to enter the PureBoot Boot Menu, access Options → Boot Options → Show OS Boot menu, select your reinstalled operating system, then set it as your default boot option within PureBoot.
so i couldn’t find any new boots on boot menu so i just did the emergency start it doesn’t recommend and i’m now fine. but if i turn off and turn back on what will it do?
I still do not know what you are referring to when you say “it”.
the computer
If you turn on the Librem 15, it will display PureBoot as usual.
ok will check thx!
so i restarted. went back to boot menu. says heads can’t generate the TOTP code. won’t let me generate a new totp code.
only way i can start is under boot options:
ignore tampering and force a boot
