Librem 15v3 - hardware kill switches trouble after a year

Hi,

I’ve noticed recently (~few days) that wifi drops when I close the lid, and upon playing with the hinge and looking at logs I was surprised to see the camera pop up and down despite the switch being set to off. This has apparently started about a month ago:

$ journalctl | grep QUANTA
...
Jan 22 19:26:47 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:26:49 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:26:49 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:27:19 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:29:19 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:32:41 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:32:42 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:33:26 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:33:27 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:33:33 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:33:39 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:33:42 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
Jan 22 19:33:46 kernel: usb 1-7: Manufacturer: QUANTA
...

(no, I’m sure I wasn’t toggling it on and off every few seconds!)

Thanksfully the camera seems to be way more sensible than wireless at this point so I can tilt the screen a bit without losing wireless, and even the camera doesn’t yell when screen is left untouched and open, but it’s going to be annoying in the long term - has anyone opened their librem’s hinge themselves?
I guess it bent at some point or the switch moved a bit making contact with the aluminum when moving so it shouldn’t be impossible to fix myself

I’ve read https://puri.sm/posts/hard-not-soft-kill-switches/ but it’s not much help on this topic, I’ll give it a try this weekend.

Anyway, treat this more as feedback than anything else (i’m not going to send this back to support anyway) - maybe the switches would make more sense to have on the side or somewhere else. Something that doesn’t stick out though :stuck_out_tongue:
