Librem 15v4 shut down unexpectedly and shows no signs of life

Hello,

Earlier today my Librem 15v4 shut down while I was simply browsing. The computer wasn’t hot. The fan wasn’t working hard. It had a full battery and it was plugged in.

It just died. No LED lights showing. Not even the plugged in battery LED was showing. So, I went about troubleshooting. Watched some Youtube videos. Used my multimeter. The charger is putting out 19V. Both black and red leads were putting out 19V on the connection to the motherboard, etc. All good.

I did resets in case of static. I unplugged my CMOS battery. Nothing helped.

I’m all out of ideas.

Unless somebody can help me here I think I’m going to have to send my computer back to Purism in the hopes they can fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh also, if I need to contact customer support, is there any way to do it through the forum? I don’t have access to any of my emails and am currently borrowing a computer to do this. Fortunately, I had my login credentials for this forum available, otherwise I would have had to create a new email address, etc. which I don’t want to do.

Thank you!

Emailing support us the best way. Otherwise you have to hope that someone like @joao.azevedo sees your post.

Update: I was able to procure my login credentials to my @librem.one email address and have just sent off a support email to Purism. Wish me luck!

When you say shutdown, do you mean that the power just cut out and it was off?

If so, this speaks heavily of a hardware problem. Something in the power rail on the mainboard. It most likely will need repair.

Yes, the power was cut off and it died. Not a normal shutdown. Just dead.

One tip that helped with my old Lenovo T61 and I’m not sure is possible with the Librem 15.

Remove the battery and try to start with only the charger providing power.

This will test whether or not it’s an issue between the EC and the battery and will mean that for some reason the battery suddenly failed. I’m giving this a 1% chance of working. But 1% is better than nothing.

Already tried that. Nothing.

My guess is that the power section of the mainboard to include the BMS is what has had the failure. It will require repair.

Support has instructed me to send it in for repair, which I will do. Thank you everybody!
