I have a brand new Librem 5 that i purchased in September.
I am trying to install a sim card.
I purchased a Verizon and mint mobile sim card. In both cases I activated the SIM, then inserted the sim into the Librem 5 when it was powered off, then powered it on.
i get the following message:
“No SIM, insert a sim card to use this modem”
I would expect that it would at least detect the sim card.
I cant seem to find anyone with this particular problem. How do I confirm there isnt a hardware defect?
So SIM never previously working? i.e. phone never previously on the cellular network?
Where did you insert the SIM? In the tray on the side (correct) or behind the battery (incorrect)? If the tray on the side, in the correct slot of the tray? (the tray has a slot for the µSD card and a slot for the SIM card) in the correct orientation?
I find the tray finicky. That is, you to be careful that the SIM stays correctly in the tray while you reinsert the tray, and just generally be careful when reinserting the tray.
Yes no SIM ever previously working in this phone. The cards themselves have been tested on other devices and verified working. Picture attached to show how I am inserting the SIM in case of user error.
In any case, the Verizon SIM is not going to work in the Librem 5, even inserted correctly. The possible reason is that Broadmobi may not have certified its modem for Verizon’s brand of VoLTE/HD voice, or whatever they’re calling it, and if so, it wouldn’t appear on their internal “approved” list.
Another possible reason is that Verizon are just #^&%$@)*s.
